What is the difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 Fitness Test?

The Original Fitness test measure heart rate recovery, while 2.0 uses heart rate recovery to estimate V02 max.

You can find the Myzone Fitness Tests on the Activities section in the Myzone app:

  1. Open the Myzone app on your device.
  2. Locate the menu icon, located in the lower right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap on the menu icon to expand the options.
  4. Select "Activities" from the menu.

Once you've reached the Activities section, you'll be able to access both fitness tests. The original MZ-Fitness Test focuses on measuring heart rate recovery, while the MZ-Fitness Test 2.0 estimates VO2 Max.

Please note that before starting any fitness test, it's important to follow the instructions provided within the app to ensure accurate and reliable results.

If you are a staff member at a Myzone facility, the MZ-Fitness Test is available in the Myzone software under 'Load Class'. It makes a great warm-up before a small group session or fitness class.

What type of equipment should I use?

Fitness Test 1.0: We recommend any cardio equipment such as a rower, spin bike, treadmill, or any activity that you regularly engage in.

Fitness Test 2.0: Choose either an upright bike or treadmill.

1. Perform the same type of exercise each time you take the test.

2. Completely stop movement during the recovery phase.
3. Perform the test at the same time of day to maintain consistency.
4. Test at the beginning of your workout each time.
5. Ensure comparable rest levels between tests. Avoid testing after periods of intense exercise or rest.
6. Consume the same food or beverage prior to the test to maintain consistency.

Now, let's explore the details of each Fitness Test:

  • The Original MZ-Fitness Test:
    - This test assesses your heart rate recovery.
    - It is a 12-minute guided workout that aims to bring your heart rate into specific zones with at least 80% accuracy.
    - The test consists of time intervals in different zones (Grey, Blue, Green, Purple) followed by a 2-minute recovery phase.
    - The Purple Zone is a custom zone created for this test to ensure consistency.
    - Your heart rate recovery score is determined by the difference in heart rate between the end of the Purple phase and the end of the recovery phase. A good score is one that improves (increases) over time!
  • 2. The MZ-Fitness Test 2.0:
    - This test estimates your VO2 Max, a measure of cardiovascular fitness.
    - Developed in collaboration with sports scientists at Loughborough University.
    -  The test involves a Zone Match over 12 minutes, which can be performed on an upright bike or treadmill. It uses the same zones as the original fitness test.
    - By matching colors within specified time intervals, the algorithm estimates your VO2 Max Score, Fitness Age, and provides a normative age/sex comparison.

To view the results of your Fitness Tests:

1. Once you've completed a test, you can find your score and workout in your home feed after it has been successfully uploaded.
2. To see your personal best score, go to the "Me" section in the app and scroll to the bottom. Tap on the Fitness Test score to view your score trends over time.

Remember, if you have any concerns or questions regarding your scores and their implications for your heart health, it is always recommended to consult with your physician or cardiologist.
